Creating a human-centered health system

The 3rd Conversation is focused on bringing together disparate groups to connect as humans and explore how that relationship can be a source of power, healing, and fulfillment. In that vein, here are some items that piqued our interest or inspired us this week…

The health care workforce was under strain before the COVID pandemic began, and evidence shows workforce burnout significantly increases after infectious disease outbreaks. We agree with this call to action: ‘Rather than re-establishing the old health system that led us to an epidemic of burnout, we need to engage all team members in rebuilding new, higher-functioning systems the promote workforce well-being.’ A human-centered system is what’s best for both patients and health care clinicians.

Public health and primary care must work together to address both COVID response and recovery, while also recognizing and addressing the disproportionate impact the disease is having on vulnerable populations. Whether it’s monitoring infection rates, conducting contact tracing, or providing short or long-term care, it’s vital to address COVID with a collaborative effort that amplifies the reach and impact of both public health and primary care.

The Poetry Unbound podcast kicked off its second season on September 28. Produced by the Onbeing Project, you can ‘anchor your week with the everyday poetry of your life.’ Jen Sweeney, 3rd Conversation co-founder and patient advocate shares, “this is an amazing podcast that I love listening to.”
